Best Practices for Translation and Mirroring

Ensuring the accurate translation and proper mirroring of your designs is crucial for creating a seamless and localized user experience. The Ideoz plugin provides robust features to translate text layers and adjust layouts for different languages, but following best practices is essential to achieve optimal results. Adhering to these guidelines will help you maintain design integrity across languages, avoid common pitfalls, and ensure your translated designs are both functional and visually appealing.
To ensure optimal results, we recommend adhering to the following guidelines

1. Ensure Font Compatibility

Select fonts that are available within Figma’s built-in options or on Google Fonts. If your original design uses external fonts not supported by Figma, replace them with equivalent Google Fonts to maintain consistency in the translated text.

The Ideoz plugin leverages Google Fonts for rendering translated text. Fonts are categorized as follows:

  • Supported Fonts: These are Google Fonts that are built directly into Figma by default.
  • External Fonts: These are Google Fonts available outside of Figma’s built-in options but can still be utilized within the platform.

2. Unlock and Unhide Layers for Translation

Before running the translation process, make sure all relevant layers are unlocked and visible. Locked or hidden layers will not be processed by the plugin, potentially leading to incomplete translations or mirroring.

Limitations to Consider

  1. Illustrations and Vectors
The ideoz plugin may not accurately mirror complex illustrations and vector graphics, especially if
they contain text or directional elements.
  2. Translated Content Width
Differences in text length due to translation may affect the design’s layout, causing overflow or alignment issues
  3. Locked and Hidden Layers
The ideoz plugin may not correctly handle rotated elements, potentially causing unexpected changes in orientation
  4. Rotated items
The ideoz plugin does not modify locked or hidden layers. Ensure relevant layers are unlocked and visible for translation and mirroring.
  5. Text Mixed styles
Text layers with mixed styles (e.g., bold and regular within the same layer) may not translate perfectly, leading to inconsistent styling
