What happened? The team solved a problem users didn’t have. Users weren’t struggling to schedule meetings manually. They were struggling with too many unnecessary meetings destroying their focus time.

The real problem was hidden beneath the surface request for “better scheduling tools.”

Hidden user problems are the silent killers of product development. They’re not obvious. Users don’t articulate them clearly. Stakeholders request solutions that miss them entirely. And if you design based on surface-level understanding, you waste months building the wrong thing.

User: “I opened our project tool, took screenshots of three different views, pasted into PowerPoint, added commentary, converted to PDF, emailed it.”

Designer: “How long did that take?”

User: “About 25 minutes. Happens 3-4 times per week.”
